GUSTAVO CASENAVE, piano

Born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1971. Classical studies since age 6. In 1994 he received a scholarship from OEA to study in the USA and two years later graduated "magna cum laude" at the famous Berklee College of Music in Boston.

During this period he obtained the "Professional Music Achievement" award, and his composition "Fragiltimer for the Past Future" for piano was selected as one of the ten best original compositions coming out from Berklee College of Music in the last 30 years (1966–1996)

Has been touring extensively since 1994 throughout Europe, South America and the United States, presenting his music with his different Tango, Jazz, and chamber ensembles, in Tango Shows, Jazz Festivals, international contests, concerts, jazz clubs, radio and TV, at prestigious venues.

Since September 1997, he joined the Faculty of the Harbor Conservatory for the Performing Arts (New York City) being on of the most respected conservatories in Latin Music Studies, teaching composition and Latin jazz piano.

Gustavo has performed and recorded with many internationally acclaimed artists and has been active in New York City since 1997 several Tango master musicians like Hector Del Curto and "Eternal Tango", Raul Jaurena and "New York–Buenos Aires Connection" and "New York Tango Trio", Pablo Aslan "Avantango",Tito Casto "Tanguardia", among others , in different "milongas" and Tango theatre productions and concerts, all across the US. He is currently teaching and performing with legendary actress and singer Bette Midler.
